Salcedo is a small city in the Cotopaxi province of Ecuador, located about 100 km south of Quito. It is known for its dairy products, especially ice cream, and its colorful murals that decorate the streets and buildings. Some of the main attractions of Salcedo are:

» Monasterio Cistercense Santa Maria del Paraiso: This is the only male monastery in Ecuador, situated on top of a hill with an amazing view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The monks live a simple and austere life, following the rule of Saint Benedict. Visitors can join them for prayers, meditation and silence, or buy some of their handmade products such as cheese, honey and candles.

» Estatua de San Miguel: This is a large statue of Saint Michael the Archangel, patron saint of Salcedo, located in the main square of the city. It was built in 1999 by a local artist and represents the victory of good over evil. The statue is illuminated at night and offers a striking contrast with the dark sky.

» Palacio Municipal: This is the city hall of Salcedo, a beautiful colonial building that dates back to 1890. It has a clock tower and a balcony where the mayor and other authorities address the public on special occasions. The interior of the palace has several paintings and sculptures that depict the history and culture of Salcedo.

» Parque Central: This is the main park of Salcedo, a green oasis in the middle of the city. It has a fountain, a playground, a gazebo and several benches where people can relax and enjoy the fresh air. The park is also surrounded by many shops, restaurants and cafes where visitors can taste some of the local delicacies such as ice cream, cheese and bread.

» Iglesia Matriz de Salcedo: This is the main church of Salcedo, a neoclassical building that was constructed in 1920. It has a white facade with two towers and a dome, and a spacious interior with stained glass windows and paintings. The church hosts several religious ceremonies and festivals throughout the year, such as Easter, Corpus Christi and Christmas.
